What Happens After I Join Adopt-A-Hive?
Help Save Honey Bees Without Having To Be A Beekeeper
You may be highly allergic to bee stings, aren't allowed to keep bees at your current place, or just don't want to be a beekeeper (after all, beekeeping isn't for everyone). However, you might still have a burning desire to aid honey bees despite these roadblocks. With Adopt-A-Hive, you can still help the bees without having the responsibility of taking care of beehives yourself.
Learn About Honey Bees From Real Beekeepers
When we send your quarterly update letters for your adopted hive, we'll include useful information that you can use and share with others that will help more honey bees survive. This may come in the form of pro tips, recommended honey bee related activities, ways to generate awareness about protecting honey bees, or other details to help you be better informed on how the bees are doing. Best of all, you'll get these details straight from real beekeepers with more than 15 years of experience.
Enable Honey Bee Research
When you adopt one of our beehives, the first portion of your contributions ensure that the needs of your hive are covered your 1-year adoption period. After that, any remaining funds are used to aid honey bee research. We take this promise very seriously so you can have complete peace of mind knowing that your contributions are directly used to help honey bees.
Enjoy The Perks Of Being An Adoptive Parent
Each Adopt-A-Hive package comes with a curated set of gifts including some raw honey, an official adoption certificate, a photo of your hive, and a total of four quarterly update letters. While the main focus is on helping honey bees, the gift sets that come with the various packages are an awesome side benefit of participating in the program.
How Are Funds Used?
Though we have no legal responsibility to do so, we feel that it's important to be transparent and accountable for the funds you contribute to helping us save more honey bees.
To give you this visibility, we've created our Financial Stewardship page. You'll find typical expenditure breakdowns, annual financial reports, and more.

Reasonable funds are allocated to help administer the needs of the program. Any remaining funds will be used to fund honey bee research.

Quarterly updates are usually sent out in January, April, July, and October.
For your first quarterly update, we will send you a physical copy of the letter along with your adoption certificate and other items that are part of the gift set for your package.
After the first update, we'll send you an email with a link to the newest update page. We do this to do our small part to cut down on paper usage and thereby, help the planet (including honey bees)
If you'd still like a physical copy of the letter, you can always download the PDF version available on the page (right next to the signature) and print that off.
It can sometimes be hard to remember that beekeeping is an agricultural activity. As with anything in agriculture, losses are to be expected. While we don't like losing bees, we also understand that it's part of the gig.
If your bees don't survive for whatever reason, we'll dedicate the remaining funds to our honey bee research efforts.
We'll also continue to send you the quarterly update letters with any information we can provide on your hive and our larger efforts as a whole.
