Adopt-A-Hive

Enjoy Helping Honey Bees Without Being A Beekeeper

Adopt-A-Hive allows you to directly help honey bees without the troubles of operating your own beehives. It’s an easy, hands-off way to aid nature’s pollination process while still giving you the satisfaction of doing your part to help the environment.

Save Honey Bees Without Lifting A Finger - Absolutely No Work Required

Adopt-A-Hive is perfect if you...
Are allergic to honey bees & as a result, aren't able to take care of your own beehives
Have a deep desire to help honey bees in any way possible
Aren't allowed to keep bees at your current residence, but still want to help
Want to help bees but don't want to invest the time, effort, & money needed to be a backyard beekeeper
Prefer to help honey bees in an easier, more hands-off way
Want to give a unique, outside the box type of gift to a friend or loved one
If the bee disappeared off the face of the earth, man would only have four years left to live.

Help Save Honey Bees Without Having To Be A Beekeeper

You may be highly allergic to bee stings, aren't allowed to keep bees at your current place, or just don't want to be a beekeeper (after all, beekeeping isn't for everyone). However, you might still have a burning desire to aid honey bees despite these roadblocks. With Adopt-A-Hive, you can still help the bees without having the responsibility of taking care of beehives yourself.

Learn About Honey Bees From Real Beekeepers

When we send your quarterly update letters for your adopted hive, we'll include useful information that you can use and share with others that will help more honey bees survive. This may come in the form of pro tips, recommended honey bee related activities, ways to generate awareness about protecting honey bees, or other details to help you be better informed on how the bees are doing. Best of all, you'll get these details straight from real beekeepers with more than 15 years of experience.

Enable Honey Bee Research

When you adopt one of our beehives, the first portion of your contributions ensure that the needs of your hive are covered your 1-year adoption period. After that, any remaining funds are used to aid honey bee research. We take this promise very seriously so you can have complete peace of mind knowing that your contributions are directly used to help honey bees.

Enjoy The Perks Of Being An Adoptive Parent

Each Adopt-A-Hive package comes with a curated set of gifts including some raw honey, an official adoption certificate, a photo of your hive, and a total of four quarterly update letters. While the main focus is on helping honey bees, the gift sets that come with the various packages are an awesome side benefit of participating in the program.

How Are Funds Used?

Though we have no legal responsibility to do so, we feel that it's important to be transparent and accountable for the funds you contribute to helping us save more honey bees.

To give you this visibility, we've created our Financial Stewardship page. You'll find typical expenditure breakdowns, annual financial reports, and more.

The Adopt-A-Hive program allows anyone to become part of our mission to help save honey bees and thereby contribute to protecting a vital part of our planet.

Becoming an adoptive parent is a unique and fulfilling opportunity to unlock the doors to survival for many more beehives and give back to the world in a meaningful way.

From The Experts

Bees underline the reality that we are more, not less, dependent on nature's services in a world of [over] 7 billion people.

Not a single bee has ever sent you an invoice...most of what comes to us from nature is free. Because it is not invoiced, because it is not priced, because it is not traded in markets, we tend to ignore it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is my adoption good for?

Each adoption lasts for one year.

If you'd like to help more bees for a longer period of time, you can always renew or change your annual adoption package at the next cycle.

Can I adopt more than one hive?

Yes! You can adopt as many hives as you'd like!

In order to adopt multiple hives, simply update your quantity during the checkout process.

Can I adopt a hive as a gift for someone else?

Absolutely! Adopt-A-Hive packages are amazing gifts to give to friends, family, and even acquaintences.

If you want to give an Adopt-A-Hive package as a gift, please let us know in the notes on your order who you'd like to gift the adoption to along with their shipping address so we can get the gift set to them.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards and support other popular payment systems such as PayPal, Apple Pay, Android Pay, and more.

Are contributions tax deductible?

Adopt-A-Hive is not currently set up as a 501(c)(3) so your contributions are not tax deductible.

What are contributions used for?

Your contributions are primarily used to provide for the needs of your adopted hive. These expenses might include food, treatments, transportation, and more.

Reasonable funds are allocated to help administer the needs of the program. Any remaining funds will be used to fund honey bee research.

For full details, see our Financial Stewardship page.

When will I receive my gift set & update letters?

Quarterly updates are usually sent out in January, April, July, and October.

For your first quarterly update, we will send you a physical copy of the letter along with your adoption certificate and other items that are part of the gift set for your package.

After the first update, we'll send you an email with a link to the newest update page. We do this to do our small part to cut down on paper usage and thereby, help the planet (including honey bees)

If you'd still like a physical copy of the letter, you can always download the PDF version available on the page (right next to the signature) and print that off.

What if my hive doesn't survive?

It can sometimes be hard to remember that beekeeping is an agricultural activity. As with anything in agriculture, losses are to be expected. While we don't like losing bees, we also understand that it's part of the gig.

If your bees don't survive for whatever reason, we'll dedicate the remaining funds to our honey bee research efforts.

We'll also continue to send you the quarterly update letters with any information we can provide on your hive and our larger efforts as a whole.

Can I refer people to the Adopt-A-Hive program?
