The Langstroth 10-Frame Hive Body (also known as a "deep")is our standard hive that works perfectly for any beekeeper. They are versatile, durable, and are available is several different assembly variations.
Hive bodies are cut from durable pine wood. Each piece is cut with interlocking notches at each end which makes it very easy to assemble. At maximum capacity, a hive body is filled with 10 hive body frames (hence the name 10-Frame Hive Body).
The following items are included with the 10-Frame Hive Body:
- 4 Hive Body sides
For durability, we assemble the 10-Frame Hive Body (and all of our other woodenware products) using commercial grade wood glue and screws. Using commercial grade materials helps gives the wood an extra measure of sturdiness which helps to keep it from breaking or falling apart. For maximum strength, wood glue is is dried for a minimum of 24 hours before hive bodies are shipped.
When assembling your own woodenware, it is advised to use commercial grade wood glue and screws. We also highly recommend that you paint the wood with 2 coats of paint to provide additional protection from the elements.

Hive bodies are larger than their smaller counterparts: the super. This gives your bees more room to build up honey stores. However, this also makes them much heavier to lift when they are full of honey. Because of this, it is generally recommended that you use hive bodies for your bottom two boxes and supers for anything else above that. This setup leaves enough food for your bees for winter time and allows for easier extraction.
