The Langstroth 10-Frame Super is the most common type of extraction box used by beekeepers. It’s durable, easy to transport, and makes the extraction process much easier.
The Langstroth 10-Frame Super is the most common type of extraction box used by beekeepers because it's much lighter than a hive body (deep) when full of honey. It is versatile, durable, and is available if several different assembly options.
Supers are cut from durable pine wood. Each piece is cut with interlocking notches at each end which makes it very easy to assemble. At maximum capacity, a super is filled with 10 super frames (hence the name 10-Frame Super).

Many beekeeper prefer to use supers for their extraction boxes (any boxes put on top of the recommended 2-hive body base) because their smaller size makes them much easier to move and extract honey from. Supers weigh significantly less than a hive body when full of honey. This is due not only to a smaller box size, but the smaller frame size as well.
