Recap & Resources
Lesson 5
In this lesson, we’ll recap the important points you’ve learned in this course. You’ll also get access to FREE resources we’ve put together to help you as you winter your hive.
*Note: There is a link at the end of the course where you can give us your feedback. Please take a few minutes to provide your thoughts so we can make our courses even better.
A Quick Recap of Important Principles
In this course, you’ve learned our 3 Principles of Hive Wintering and why each of them is important. Specifically, you’ve learned to:
You’ve also learned that in order to live by these principles, you need to make sure to do the following:
- Leave at least 200 lbs. of honey (2 Hive Bodies or 20 Hive Body Frames) for your bees
- Don’t split hives too late in the season (usually after August 1st)
- Combine weak hives together after extraction so that they will be stronger going into winter
- Protect your bees from winter dangers by placing them in a low-traffic location that is protected from the cold, the wind, and prowling animals
By following these principles, you will give your hives the best possible chance of surviving the cold winter months.
Important Note
Again, we will reiterate that following these principles does not guarantee that your hives will survive. There are any number of other factors that could cause a hive to perish during the winter time.
What these principles will do is give your hive every chance to survive on their own.
