Nuc is short for "Nucleus Hive" and is just a smaller version of a hive body (deep). A 5-frame nuc is the standard size most beekeepers use because it provides you the best opportunities to create stronger bee colonies. A strong nuc can be used to help replenish weak hive populations or rear additional queens. Additionally, empty nuc boxes can also be used for capturing swarms. 5-frame nuc boxes are small and compact making transportation easy.

Included
The following items are included with the 5-frame nuc:
- 1 nuc top
- 1 nuc bottom
- 2 nuc long side pieces
- 2 nuc short side pieces
- 5 hive body frames (Ready-to-Go nucs only)
Assembly
For durability, we assemble nuc boxes (and all of our other woodenware products) using commercial grade wood glue and screws. Using commercial grade materials helps gives the nuc an extra measure of sturdiness which helps to keep the wood from breaking or falling apart. For maximum strength, wood glue is is dried for a minimum of 24 hours before hive bodies are shipped.
Self-Assembly
When assembling your own woodenware, it is advised to use commercial grade wood glue and screws. We also highly recommend that you paint the wood with 2 coats of paint to provide additional protection from the elements.
