A Hive Top is crucial to the survival of the hive because it protects the bees from harsh elements, predators, intruding bees or other insects, and other dangers to the hive. It also minimizes the area that guard bees have to protect which allows your bees to devote more energy to tending to other necessary tasks such as cleaning or foraging.
The hive top will cover both Hive Bodies (deeps) and supers. It is recommend to pair hive tops with a Feeder Top to make feeding your bees an easier task.
The following items are included with the Hive Top:
- 3 hive top slats
- 2 hive top sides
For durability, we assemble hive tops (and all of our other woodenware products) using commercial grade wood glue and screws. Using commercial grade materials gives an extra measure of sturdiness which helps to keep the wood from breaking or falling apart. For maximum strength, wood glue is is dried for a minimum of 24 hours before products are shipped.
When assembling your own woodenware, it is advised to use commercial grade wood glue and screws. We also highly recommend that you paint the wood with 2 coats of paint to provide additional protection from the elements.
